After more than a year of design and mould construction, the Odin prototype has emerged from the molds few weeks ago. The process went smoothly!

This is the new F3F glider, entirely designed and made in France, the result of a project initiated a year ago and led by Loup Rollin for 3D design and manufacturing, Jean-Luc Foucher (Alliaj HM, Cosmos, Pinguoin, Mouette) for aerodynamic design, and Mickaël Brayer for the structural and composite design of the glider. The glider is intended for competition. Mickaël Brayer and Jean-Luc Hadey also contributed to the creation of the molds.

Specifications:

  • Wingspan: 300 cm
  • Length: 142 cm
  • Wing profile: JLF (proprietary)
  • FAI area: 61.14 dm²
  • Empty weight: 2.35 kg
  • Max FAI weight: 4.585 kg
  • Ballast: 1,840 g brass
  • Nose length: 346 mm
  • Root chord: 240 mm
And yesterday afternoon, the very first flights of the Odin prototype took place on a slope used for the 2024 World Championships. These initial steps, carried out by its designer JL Foucher, seem promising based on the first impressions. Now, the glider needs to be thoroughly tested and fine-tuned before being thrown into the deep end of competition later this year.
