Flying the Tsubasa

The real fun begins with this third flying session: Gray and cold weather, but a steady wind between 6 and 9 m/s on the local slope and no one in sight, I have the slope all to myself.

For the flight, I confidently set the center of gravity; all that remains is to fine-tune the aileron differential. After a few runs up and down the slope and a few clicks on the rudder trim to adjust the aileron differential, I tackle the aerobatics. And what a pleasant surprise! The Tsubasa performs aerobatics quite well. The reversal is fairly smooth, even with a little aileron input. The energy recovery allows for impressive vertical climbs, despite its weight of only 365g. Looping is easy, requiring only a slight increase in airspeed, and remains well-controlled throughout. The roll is a breeze, and even the four-way roll is executed without a hitch. Inverted flight is perfectly stable. The fast passes followed by a few basic F3F maneuvers are also quite enjoyable.

It remains to be seen how it performs in Dynamic Soaring on the darker side of the slope. And there too, I'm blown away. At 1m and 365g, the Tsubasa really performs well; it picks up speed easily, remains controllable even in turbulence, and is never dangerous. I really need to add a ballast tube because I'm sure it will be even better.

In short, this Tsubasa, besides being incredibly cute, is packed with qualities.
