RC-Slopes database now on Google Earth

(version française à la fin)

Hello everyone,

Following the closure of the RC-Slopes site and so that the exceptional contribution of Stéphane is lost forever, I took the initiative to download the xml file that Stéphane provides on the homepage and transform it into kmz file to be used directly with Google Earth, either the chrome-based WEB version (https://earth.google.com/web/) or the PRO version to install on your PC (https://www.google.com/intl/en/earth/releases/#earth-pro).

The kmz file can be downloaded here .

If you use the web version of goodle earth, once started, go to the settings menu and allow import of kml file. Then click on "My Favorite Places", then "import a kml file", select the downloaded file beforehand, and validate!

For the PRO version, it's almost the same. Once started, go to the "file" menu, then click on "import", select the downloaded file and validate.

In both cases, a list of several hundred slopes appears and when you click on one of them, Google Earth hovers over the map and zooms in on the slope, while displaying the important information that was on the site RC Slopes.

It also works with the Android mobile app. To do this, simply install the application, download the kmz file. Once this file on the phone, a double click on it proposes to open it with the application Google Earth. By cons the mobile application does not display the list of slopes, just the icons, so you have to move on the map.

In short, it will never replace RC-Slopes, but at least it will be able to use this wealth of information and the user experience is not so bad, especially on a smartphone.

Another huge thank you to Stéphane for the tremendous work he has done all these years (not to mention the many contributors). Indeed many people do not realize the energy that it requires, and others behave like consumers, to whom everything is due!
