MicroMAX, the pocket F3F !

The MicroMAX is a project initiated by Henning Schmidt (Sansibear), designed by Christophe Bourdon, and developed/manufactured by Anton Ovcharenko (OA  Composites). The idea came initially from the 1m DLG strike, but this time is optimized for slope, with the capability to be ballasted to almost double the flying weight.

The kit arrived just 2 days before Christmas in a sturdy wood box, right on time to be at the bottom of the Christmas tree. The kit is superb and so cute with a very nice unusual metallic lunar gray color.

The one piece wing is displaying a very "cartoonish" microMax Logo in neon color. Servo compartments are ready, location for the control horns, and the control rod in piano wire are drilled already. The wing is maintained on the fuselage with 2 metallic crews. The center front of the wing is showing a recess to install the wing servo connector.

Fuselage is very innovative on the rear end. The section of the fuselage is reduced on the last 4cm in width to offer an elevator control rod exit with a direct access and connection to the elevator control horns, which therefore remain external to the fuselage. This is a very simple but very smart solution for a small glider. The piano wire end is simply crooked, and allow to mount or remove easily the V tails for transportation. The screw inserts are already in place to receive the wing. The V tail joiner is just glued outside the fuselage in a slot molded on purpose.

All necessary accessories are delivered in the kit, including the servo extension, the connectors, the piano wire + sleeves for the fuselage, the piano wire for the ailerons, the fuselage servo tray in epoxy board, the servos covers, the carbon control horns.

The finish an fit is absolutely excellent, at the level of what we can expect from a HLG construction. The ballast is not provided, but easy to prepare, as it will take place under the wing and can be immobilized. I think I will prepare a 16mm aluminum tube filled in with lead, and with a nut to fix it firmly with a 3mm screw. According to the designer is should be possible to use a 250gr ballast. I will possibly prepare 50, 100 and 200gr ballast.

The RC equipment consists in 4 micro servos such as the MKS HV75K-N, a tiny 4 channel receiver, and a 1s 420mAh to 600mAh LiPo battery. My idea is to prepare a 3D printed removable servo tray

  1. lol c'est vraiment un f3k en vtail surtotu vu les charges alaires... par ce que pleins de planeurs aimeraient avoir "que" 38g/dm² alros que lui c'est full ballast.
